Virtual Piano Tutoring

More about Jessica as an Educator

Jessica is an experienced educator who has worked in public charter schools teaching K-5 in Newark and Denver, as well as a private school in NYC. She has also worked in private music schools teaching and designing curriculum for piano students and early starters. Her music pupils have ranged in age from 3 years old to adult.

Her teaching style is fun, but firm, and engaging. She loves to make the material intriguing for her students by connecting it to their interests. Her breadth of knowledge includes teaching literacy (narrative and informational), writing, mathematics, science, social studies, history and music.

She relishes cultivating a love for music in her students. Jessica is a flexible teacher who can teach a variety of songs from classical to rock to r&b. You can stream or purchase her newest music release, Sky Improvisations, by clicking here. Watch some videos of piano and other music endeavors on this page.

Overview of Lessons

There is a 2-camera set up: one for the sideview and one for overhead or pedal work, as needed. Lessons are remotely taught via Zoom.

All students will be shared a link to a Google Document Notebook for their lessons, including what to practice and focus on until their next lessons.

For school-age children, I reserve a few minutes after their lesson to check-in with families (parents/guardians) who would like a brief summary of the lesson that week.

Payment and Cancellations

Payment

Payment is accepted via PayPal.
You will receive an invoice through your email for monthly payments.
You will receive a payment request for weekly payments.

This is a per-lesson contract for weekly exchange (or weekly payments) and a monthly contract for monthly payments (or monthly tuition).

Payment is due prior to the lesson start time for the lesson, if paying per lesson.
For monthly tuition, payment is requested by the second week of each month. At the latest, payment is due prior to the second lesson of the month.

No refunds once the lesson has started.

For monthly payments, you may receive a partial return if you need to cancel for remaining lessons after the month has begun.
You must inform Jessica of withdrawal from lessons in writing prior to 24 hours of the next lesson for that portion of the tuition to be returned.

Cancellations

If the teacher cancels the piano lesson, the student can select to:
(1) receive credit towards the next month if paying monthly tuition
or
(2) reschedule the lesson as a makeup lesson if timing allows.

If the student needs to cancel the lesson, please do so more than 24 hours from the start of the lesson.
The student will either schedule a makeup lesson or receive credit towards the next month if paying monthly tuition.

If the student cancels within 24 hours of the lesson, this is considered a late cancellation.
For the first 2 times this occurs, the teacher will offer credit towards the next month of lessons or schedule a makeup lesson if scheduling allows as a show of goodwill.

If late cancellation (within 24 hours) happens a third time or more, the lesson or lessons will be considered forfeit and will not be credited nor rescheduled.

These policies are here to respect the time spent and/or lost by late cancellations.

Internet Connection and Video Capabilites

Please ensure that you have a reliable internet connection and a device that supports video calls.
This would include a computer/tablet/smartphone that has a camera and a microphone.

Tip: Test out safe areas where the student can place the device so that I can see/hear their piano/keyboard and they can also see/hear my screen.

Technical snafus may happen and we’ll do our best to work through them together!
